About Ashtanga Yoga..

About Ashtanga Yoga, The Primary Series

Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic practice, a beautiful combination of breath and movement, which with time becomes almost as a walking meditation. It is complete, healing, and absolutely addictive. When practiced daily, it provides a mirror into ourselves, which may make us feel strong and powerful, or humble at a time.

The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is also known as Yoga Chikitsa, being Yoga Therapy. It is therapy for everyone, not only for those who would like to address a specific condition, but also for those in good health as it helps to maintain and revitalize the system at all levels.

Therapeutic benefits of asanas (a handful picked up from 'Yoga Mala', by Sri Pattabhi Jois):

  • improving digestion

  • reducing anxiety and fatigue

  • improving posture and sense of balance

  • relieving headache, insomnia and back pain

  • stretching the entire body (hamstrings, calves, hips, legs, knees, ankles, groins, shoulders, chest, spine...)

  • stimulating liver and kidneys

  • calming the brain and helping relieve stress and mild depression

  • strengthening and energizing the entire body

  • helping to relieve the symptoms of menopause and menstrual discomfort

  • opening the chest to improve breathing

  • stimulating abdominal organs

  • therapeutic for asthma, high blood pressure, infertility, osteoporosis, sciatica, flat feet and sinusitis

For whom is Ashtanga practice?

It is a practice for everyone. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, thanks to whom we know Ashtanga yoga as it is per today, used to say: “Anyone can practice. Young man can practice. Old man can practice. Very old man can practice. Man who is sick, he can practice. Man who doesn’t have strength can practice. Except lazy people; lazy people can’t practice yoga.”

What others say about the classes

What is it that will make you fall in love with Ashtanga yoga?

"When you start practicing you first get hooked because you can quickly see how much progress you are able to make. Then you notice you are able to do things you thought they were completely out of reach. You get to try new things almost every day. Stepping on the mat becomes like looking into a mirror, you assess how you feel, if you are up for a challenge today or maybe better to take it easy. Soon it becomes the part of your day which you never want to skip, as you either need a check-in moment with yourself, or because you are up for some mental game between you and your mind ;) Before you know it, you wake up, roll out your mat, and follow your breath.."
