OMBRETTA DETTORI

Ombretta is the founder of Ayu Doula Amsterdam, where she has supported women through birth and postpartum since 2019. She supports Dutch and expat families across Amsterdam and the surrounding area, working in English and Italian.

As a birth doula, she offers continuous presence through labour and birth, alongside preparation that draws on her background in psychology — particularly for women carrying fear from a previous birth. She holds advanced certification in supporting VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) from The VBAC Link, is trained in Spinning Babies, and is a certified Childbirth Educator through Bebo Mia.

Her postpartum work is where Ayurveda and doula care meet. She trained as an Ayurvedic Postpartum Caregiver with the Centre for Sacred Window Studies in California, and as a Postpartum Care Professional with Midwifery Cafe in South Africa. In practice this means in-home care across the first forty days — marma therapy, belly binding, nourishing food, birth story integration — alongside the flexible, practical presence of a postpartum doula once kraamzorg has ended.

She is an Ayurvedic Practitioner (Academy of Ayurvedic Studies), specialised in women's health, pregnancy and postpartum through Arya Ayurveda in India, where she lived for a year studying with Ayurvedic physicians. She has also completed trauma-sensitive training with The Yoga Therapy Institute in Amsterdam, and holds a Master's degree in Psychology and an HBO-level degree in Medical Science.

She loves simple things: the smell of freshly made coffee in the morning, crisp sunrises in winter, strolls by the sea, cooking, reading, travelling the world — the one outside and the one within — and her furry friend Mia.
